Free market competition is a potent force in subduing price increases and nowhere is this more apparent than with current Texas energy plans available since the implementation of energy deregulation in the Lone Star State. Where users once had no real options in their choice of electric energy providers, they now have a plethora of choices in this area. This has led to more economical alternatives and a distinct improvement in customer service.
Back in the days before Texas electric energy deregulation, electricity was generated, transmitted, sold and delivered by the same entity. Customers were billed and serviced by the same organization and, because this utility was the only game in town, energy costs could be arbitrary and customer service less than exemplary. The infusion of competitive forces has changed all this, providing benefits and advantages to both old customers and newly emerging service companies.
While electrical energy generation is still being handled in essentially the same way as before, distribution of this power now falls to separate providers known as Retail Electric Providers, or REPs. These REPs, which are required to be certified by the Texas Public Utility Commission, purchase bulk electric power from the generation facilities and then provide distribution services to their individual customers. As a result, Texas energy plans are now available in a variety of price ranges and consisting of a wide array of benefits, options and incentives.
Because the industry has now become so competitive, Texas companies offering electricity for sale have become quite creative in the way they are doing business. Besides more attractive price offerings they are now giving incentives to attract new customers, special packages to retain loyal clients and even opportunities to earn money by referring their services to others. All of these programs have proven beneficial to consumers looking for things like discounts and dedicated customer service.
Energy deregulation has proved successful in the great state of Texas and is slowly finding favor in other jurisdictions as well. Any time consumers can experience lower prices coupled with better service the catalyst should be well received. The system works.
