Posters have been used for promotion and marketing for centuries. From Uncle Sam enlisting soldiers during the war with the: ‘I want you for U.S. Army’ slogan, to companies promoting everything from chocolate, cigarettes and soft drinks. But, in the modern age the poster has gone through a digital makeover – introducing the digital poster:
Body:
Posters are a common for advertising and promotion, most city’s and towns have them pasted on walls, bus stops and other locations but their ubiquity is also part o their undoing. We are all so used to seeing poster that they are now just part of the scenery and quite often, we can walk past them, not noticing the messages they are attempting to convey.
Fortunately, the humble poster has had a twenty-first century upgrade in the guise of the digital poster. Digital posters are quite simply modern flat-screen devices, such as LCD TVs or plasmas that are used to display advertising, promotion and branding using moving images and bold colors to provide clean and crisp digital signage.
Digital posters have many advantages over static ones the first being that they are far more noticeable and engaging, helping to draw the eye and get people to notice the messages. They are also eye-catching at night too, providing 24-hour advertising, something that static posters cannot do.
Once installed, digital posters can make huge savings for advertisers as there are also no printing costs and another great advantage is that once installed, content can be uploaded instantly, and even remotely, doing away with the need to employ somebody to paste up new content; digital posters can even be networked together and synchronized to play scheduled content.
Digital posters are becoming a common sight in many locations, from around shopping malls, down subways, in airports and on the walls of concourses, and they are easy to use too.
Digital posters contain several elements: the LCD screen, which can be mounted in both portrait and landscape orientation; a media player, where content is uploaded too; and the protective case, that provides an aesthetic frame but also houses the screen and media player to prevent tampering.
All sorts of content can be played on digital posters with common formats like JPEGS, MPEG, MP3s and even PPT (Power Point), which can even be uploaded by a USB stick (often called a flash drive).
Most digital posters are very simple to use too with in-built playlist editors allowing you to easily schedule content (most USB sockets on digital posters are lockable too to prevent tampering).
Most digital posters are plug-and-play/ turn-key solutions so once installed they are ready to receive content and start working straight away.
If wall-mounted digital posters are not what you require there are some other simpler digital signage solutions too. Stand-alone digital posters/free-standing digital posters are a similar concept to wall-mounted ones with the same plug-and-play characteristics.
These, however, as the name suggests are floor standing, which has the advantage of being even more noticeable as they become a feature that has to be negated. These aren’t suitable for all locations as they require space but they are often found inside retail stores and in shopping malls.
Digital posters, whether they are wall mounted or standalone units are a modern approach to advertising, that while have an initial investment, is easily recouped in the savings that can be made in printing and staffing costs, and the return on investment the advertising brings make them a very rewarding form of advertising.
