Rosiglitazone Maleate or Avandia is a drug greatly effective for type 2 diabetes patients because of its sustained effects on glycemic control. It is a member of the class of drug known as Thiazolidinedione, with its counterpart being Pioflitazone or Actos. These classes of drugs are known to reduce glucose, insulin blood concentrations, and fatty acids. They effectively bind receptors on the cell nucleus membrane which are called PPARs or Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptors. These PPARs can be found in various locations in the body such as fat cells, muscles, endothelium, cells of the liver, heart and the blood vessels smooth muscle.
Avandia is a drug that is strictly prescribed by doctors which is not safe for all types of type 2 diabetic patients. Avandia is not recommended for type 1 diabetic patients. Avandia is said to be an important treatment option for diabetic patients, coupled with the right diet, weight control, exercise, and clean living. Avandia can act as a standalone drug, or can be effectively combined with metformin, glimepiride, or insulin. An Avandia news reported that the company earned a peak of approximately $2.5 to $3.2 billion in 2006 alone. Here is another Avandia news, despite the Avandia class action and Avandia recall the patent is extended up to 2012.
Why is there an Avandia reacall and Avandia lawsuits? It is because Avandia side effects are quite dangerous. Here are some Avandia side effects:

GSK admittedly reported greater incidence of fractures among female diabetics in the upper arms, hands and feet area.
Another Avandia side effect is that has been suspected to cause eye damage through macular edema damage to the retina which may ca use partial blindness.
Hepatotoxicity
Hyper and Hypoglycemia
UTI Urinary Tract Infection
Increased pregnancy in women
Weight gain is another Avandia side effect
Headaches, back pains, fatigue, and sinusitis
If you feel that you or a family member may have fallen victim to one of Avandia side effects, then you should contact your doctor, and your lawyer immediately for legal advice on an Avandia lawsuit.
Avandia lawsuits can cause anywhere from $1 6 billion in damages. To date, approximately 13,000 Avandia lawsuits had been filed including: the Santa Clara County, California and the PCRM Avandia class action lawsuit. In 2010 alone, GSK has spent well over $500 million in settlement.
Here is shocking Avandia news the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) had been calling for an Avandia recall due to the many grave dangers it is posing to the general public for over seven years now. Various medical researches and reports have shown many potential threats that the company GSK had failed to inform the users of. The senate conducted their investigation for the Avandia recall and to no surprise, the July 14th 2010 vote result concluded that the drug stays in the market with a better revised warning label.
