Again, after reading more for my Aquaponics4You Review, I realized perhaps the biggest advantage of maintaining an aquaponics kits garden is that it's much easier than sowing in the ground & maintaining a vegetable garden in soil. In aquaponics, all you've got to do is take care of your plants in a netting pot. Then after that you just wait until they grow. However, before you go out & prepare your own aquaponic kit garden, please note that you need an ideal moment for planting seeds that'll help you maximise your harvest.
Most beginners in aquaponic farming simply assemble the tank, buy fish & seeds, then place both fish & seeds into the tank on the same day. This method can work if you're an expert in aquaponics, but it is probably the worst for the first timers to do because the seeds will certainly die in a just matter of days, unless you've got a number of essential nutrients in the water.
For better results, place the seeds in pots when fish excrement has been transformed into plant nutrients. This process is quite simple: When you put the fish right in the tank, they'll naturally drop their faeces in the water. Now you may think that their droppings are toxic to fish because of their ammonia content, & you'd be right. But nature has a way of balancing itself. Bacteria will transform the ammonia in the faeces first into nitrites & then nitrates. By waiting on this process of disintegration of excrement & ammonia conversion is completed, you're ensuring that the water in the tank is ready to support your plants. Additionally, while you are waiting for the right time to plant seeds, you also eliminate the need for you to purchase additional nutrients to the plants.
Exactly how long do you wait before you can begin to plant seeds? Well, the entire decomposition & conversion process can take up to 3 months to complete. That is, of course, if you do not have effective methods speed up the process, which involves applying nitrates directly in the water. However, some people don't consider it wise to interfere with nature's ways. After all, you're getting into organic farming in part because you'll be more in harmony with nature, right? Whether you choose to wait for nature to do its work, or choose to help her, it is important for you to always monitor the amount of nutrients (ammonia, nitrates & nitrites) in the water. This way, you'll ensure that water quality is ideal not only for your plants, but for your fish as well.
Remember, timing is essential if you wish to take full advantage of aquaponics farming. Always take time to monitor water quality in the tank both before & after planting. This will help you ensure that you get good crops & healthy fish.
