Emergency alert systems allow people to stay in their homes longer and retain their independence. A monitored system gives the senior, and their families, peace of mind. They know that if there is an emergency, help is not far away. Modern alert systems offer distinct advantages which will be discussed here.

Wireless technology gives a senior or disabled person the freedom to move around their home without the need to be near a stationary panic button, or their home phone. Bases in a customer’s home are connected wirelessly to bracelets worn by the customer. When a customer pushes the button on a bracelet, it transmits a signal to the base which then sends a signal to the monitoring company.

New technology allows the monitoring company to communicate verbally with the customer through the base of the emergency alert system in the home. The customer can request help if they are unable to respond and the monitor will call for medical or emergency assistance. Some emergency alert systems allow customers to check in a few times per day. If they do not, the monitoring company will attempt to communicate with the patient and take further action if needed.

Advances in the fabrication of emergency bracelets now make them waterproof. This is a big improvement since one of the places that a senior is most likely to fall is in the shower. Now the bracelet does not have to be removed while showering or doing dishes. This allows the senior to get help if they should need it - even while bathing.

Modern emergency alert systems are easy to install. Usually, there is no need for a technician to set up the unit. The unit can be sent directly to the customer’s home. The patient simply puts on the emergency bracelet which can also be worn on a cord around the neck or clipped onto clothing for easy access.

Anyone who would like to control their independence and still have assistance if an emergency should arise should consider purchasing one of these newly updated emergency alert systems.
