Computers are now part and parcel of our everyday lives. Without realising it, computers control our lives and are not just found in offices and home locations. Computers are now in our washing machines, cars and microwave ovens. Computers are now an essential aspect in nearly every industry, but using them in some locations can be difficult.
An integral part of industrial processes, computers are used to control production lines, keep track of stock, help to reduce waste and make industrial and factory floor processes simpler and more efficient; however, trying to boot up a standard desktop computer and monitor in many industrial locations will lead to failure.
While modern computers and monitors are used in all sorts of locations outside the home and office, most are only designed to operate in indoor locations and in moderate temperatures; unfortunately, not the type of environment commonly found in industrial and factory locations.
Various elements exist in factory and industrial locations, from dust and grime to water used in wash down locations, not to mention the varying temperatures that exist in warehouses and on shopfloors.
Computers are easily protected in such environments by housing them in computer enclosures that allow them to function whilst being protected by a waterproof and dustproof cabinet; however, as monitors need to be seen, it is far more difficult to keep them clean and dry in an industrial location.
Monitor enclosures provide the solution for using monitors and displays in almost any location. Like computer enclosures, monitor enclosures are waterproof, keeping moisture and spray away from the screen—and in many cases allowing it to be washed down. Monitor enclosure will also prevent dust and other fine particulates from getting inside the enclosure.
As the temperature range of most computer monitors is limited, monitor enclosures house climatic systems that are designed to ensure the internal temperature remains at this optimum. Heaters, cooling fans and even air conditioners are used inside monitor enclosures meaning they can be used almost anywhere-even outside.
Even in food production locations monitor enclosures can be used. Many monitor enclosures are in fact designed to operate in wash down locations and have often been built to guidelines such as IP65 (Europe) or NEMA 4 (USA).
Of course, monitors have changed dramatically in design over recent years. Gone are the bulky cathode ray tube monitors (CRT), which have been replaced by the modern flat screen devices like LCD (liquid crystal display) and plasmas.
These more modern and flatter screens are more versatile and because of their flat nature, modern monitors can be mounted almost anywhere, flush against a wall or mounted on stands and brackets. Monitor enclosures are also tough as they are commonly manufactured from steel which makes them able to cope with rough knocks and impacts-a high risk in such industrial locations.
Made from steel monitor enclosures are also designed to last with the average enclosure able to be reused for years to come. And as monitor enclosure are commonly built to VESA guidelines (Video Electronics Standards Association) nearly any make and model of screen can be inserted inside the enclosure-as long as it matches the size. And as monitor enclosure come in the a wide range of screen size-including the most common sizes used-you can source whatever type of screen you wish to use, and then source the enclosure, rather tan have to buy an industrial monitor which will not only be highly expensive but are also limited in their size ranges.
