Spelling software, online word games, mnemonics, these are some ways to make learning fun because whether you are an adult or a young learner, learning spelling need not be boring. Most of us can enumerate the ways our teachers taught spelling to us. These are the routinary ways of pronouncing the word, spelling it as a class then each student is called to recite the spelling of the word to the class then expect a spelling quiz the next day. Some added challenges to break this routine commonly are sentence construction using the word or giving the definition of the word in your own words.
But nowadays, this routine can be given a twist so students can have fun while learning. These methods can be integrated to classroom or individual instructions. This concept of having fun while learning materialized because it was observed that students do learn and interact faster when they are having fun with what they are doing or asked to do. Below are some methods used by different teachers which you can integrate in your methods of teaching, if you are a teacher or suggest to your teacher, if you're a student.
Online Word Games
The resources for this approach are easy to search. Google can offer a lot of links just by searching using words like word games or spelling games. Jumbled letter games, Word search games, and different versions of hangman are just some of the examples you can find online. These will entertain your students at the same time sharpen their spelling skills.
Spelling Software
This type of computer based program, most of the time is an all in one package. If you use this as a teacher, you may say all you need to do is just to sit back and relax. Although this is not ideal if you use this as your teaching tool because you may lose your job to the software, but kidding aside this tool will really help your student. There are different brands of spelling software in the web market but the most of these have lessons presented in an easy-to-follow manner with a big emphasis on fast improvement. The students can learn this on their own or the lessons and levels can be facilitated by teachers. It's just a matter of finding the right one suitable to your learning or teaching needs.
Audio Pronunciations
Hearing the word being said and spelled is still a traditional way of learning English words. However, a modern touch has been given to this approach for faster comprehension. Online dictionaries and other English learning programs now commonly use a human voice to pronounce the words to give it a human touch I should say. This makes learning feel personalized and understanding is better compared to listening to a computer voice. Using these audio resources can help hasten the improvement of students.
These tweaks in teaching English are friendly and modern ways to keep the student entertained while learning at the same time. Often these motivate the students in their studies and this motivation will help them again for faster improvement.
