There are many people who want to work at a radio station. However not many people exactly what needs to be get their radio broadcasting careers on the go. The first thing one needs to be aware of is that there is a wide variety of radio broadcasting jobs. Radio jobs can range from presenting on air, to sweeping the studio.
You therefore have to be sure exactly which one of the radio jobs you are interested in. To jumpstart any of your radio broadcasting careers you first need to get some training. This is because most radio broadcasting jobs involve handling equipment that one has to be conversant with. This is from the collection of information to relaying it to listeners.
There are many colleges that train people who are keen on getting radio station jobs. This is where the importance of knowing which radio jobs you are interested in comes in. The colleges offering this type of training vary with the exact radio job you prefer. For instance a radio journalist and a radio engineer get trained in different schools. Yes they may be pursuing the same radio broadcasting careers but what they do is different.
While some radio jobs require passion and talent others require much more. Due to their technicality one has to have passed in subjects such as physics and mathematics. This is because in some radio station jobs lots of engineering is involved. Others require you to have good writing skills, they say journalists are not made in class hence you need to be a good writer even before you go to journalism school. All they do there is teach you the rules of the game but the writing instinct has to come from within you.
A radio presenting job requires one to be naturally talented as a speaker. You dont have to be a top notch orator but you need to be a good speaker by any standards; someone who is flexible and can discuss pretty much anything from politics to economics comfortably. This means that you need to be an ardent reader and have keen interest in current affairs.
Not many people are aware that there is a radio producer portfolio among radio broadcasting jobs. Most people think that the presenter calls the shots from choosing topics of discussion, selecting the music to be played. This is the producers job; he is in charge of the overall concept of the radio program and comes up with almost everything.
However this makes it one of the most demanding radio jobs. It takes a lot of creativity and working long hours. A radio producer can be in charge of two shows in a day. This means he has to do all the research to get material for both shows, not forgetting he also has to meet the presenters to explain the content .He may also be required to market the show by himself, which involves meeting potential marketers to get commercials for the show.
